How should I respond to chronic invalidation?
I am living with a partner who believes that thoughts literally create reality. For example, he believes that,if a person dies in a car accident at six months old, that person created his or her reality by thinking negative thoughts. The same goes for violent crime victims, sick people, and everybody else who is suffering in any way. On the other hand, he thinks that he is going to win the lottery because he "thinks" that he will win. As one might expect, I feel quite alone when I need emotional support, empathy, or validation from my partner, who will merely say, in one form or another, that EVERYTHING that happens in my life, good or bad, is a CHOICE, even if I am hit on the head by a meteorite. How should I respond to such chronic invalidation?
