Mac Sound Problem With Headphones.?

Everytime i plug in my headphones into my macbook (i have the first macbook), music dosent come out of the headphones. It's def. not the headphones becuase i have tried many diffrent pairs of headphones, but i have tried using a toothpick, to see if something is wrong in the inside buh still everytime i plug in the headphones the music continues to come out of the macbook. HELP!
